COMPANY

The Horton Wison Deepwater (HWD) team is well known in the deepwater community for being at the leading edge of successful technology development. Seventeen Horton floating production units, some that include drilling rigs, have been built and producing today in the deep waters worldwide.

This group started working together at Deep Oil Technology, the developers of both Classic and Truss Spars.  Once Deep Oil Technology was acquired by Aker Maritime and McDermott, the team transitioned to Aker under the Floater Product Line group, responsible for technical sales and development work related to the high end proprietary floating system products.

The core development group has been cohesive throughout a succession of companies beginning with the development of Spar and other offshore technologies. The original team assisted in delivering 14 Spars for offshore deepwater service, representing about half of the worldwide drilling and production systems. Horton Wison Deepwater includes the inventors of many of the existing deepwater platform solutions, including Ed Horton and Lyle Finn. The group has numerous patents for devices and methods used in the offshore oil & gas industry. Some early patents important to the evolution of the offshore industry by the group are:
